Fiordland Marine Biosecurity Programme
Since 2006, MPI has partnered with the Department of Conservation (DOC), Ministry for the Environment (MfE), Environment Southland, and the Fiordland Marine Guardians (the Guardians) in a programme to provide marine biosecurity protection for Fiordland.
Better ways to stop marine pests?
As the movement of boats increases, so too does the risk of marine pests spreading. With support from MPI, four regional councils – Northland, Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty Toi Moana – are exploring whether having hull-fouling rules that are applied consistently across several regions would be a better way forward.
